Another Beautiful Weekend!

It was a decent week for Tautog fishing with some favorable ocean conditions. The key to a good bite was fishing when the tide was moving. I did have a few customers that struggled to get there limit yesterday with a lot of shorts and not being able to sit on top of a group of chewing tog. Most of the action seems to be coming from areas in 20 to 40 feet of water and there have been some cod and black sea bass mixed in. Striped bass fishing has been very good from the local beaches and Breachway with lots of surface action during the day, plugs, eels and jigs producing well at night. Schools of smaller bass were around this week with a few 40 inchers being pulled out along the south shore. There have been large schools of bait moving along the beaches with bass and a few bluefish in pursuit. The bait mostly includes mackerel, bunker (peanuts anywhere from 1-5 in) bay anchovies, and mullet. Schools of false albacore continue to pop up from Napatree Point to Narragansett and those anglers targeting them are managing a few. Has been a slower bite as of late from shore but boat anglers have been getting a shot at them. They have been very picky at times when they are feeding on smaller bait. Pink or brown epoxies seem to be the ticket right now. The Salt Ponds have been producing a quality bite and fish. I have seen fish 30+ lbs. cruising in shallow water in the back coves they can be picky but can often be fooled in the morning or evening. They are back there because the warmer water is attractive to bait this time of year and the temperature has dropped just enough to make a big bass feel comfortable. Tuna bite is a swing or miss now with most fish moving farther out or down south. Weekend Weather Report: Friday 10/20: Se Winds 10 To 15 Kt With Gusts Up To 20 Kt. Seas 2 To 3 Ft.
