Fishing Report May 5th, Bluefish in the Mix

The storm over the weekend stirred the water up making it dirty creating more of a challenge for

anglers. As the week has gone on conditions have improved and the bite is steady. We are looking at a great weekend with the full moon tonight and warmer temperatures Saturday and Sunday. Fishing for stripers continues to be great with fish taking a variety of baits. Bass up to around 38 inches are being caught from the surf to back in the ponds. Fly fisherman have been having great

success fooling fish with smaller silverside presentations. This is and important time of year to remind fellow anglers to handle their fish with care and get a healthy release. Bluefish are being caught consistently and are of good size. Squid fishing is starting to pick up along the beach and there have been decent reports from areas around Newport for a week or so. Tautog fishing is getting into full swing here on the south shore with the fish moving into the shallows to spawn. This gives shore anglers a great opportunity and they wont say no to a clam or sandworm dropped in front of them. If you are traveling through the backwaters this weekend keep your eyes pealed for cinder warm hatches "spawning's". I am expecting a few to show in shallow sun hit coves.
