It was a great week to get out on the ocean! Customers were able to test their luck on every kind of fish that can be found in Rhode Island waters.
Fluke reports picked up this week. The quantity of fish was high with constant action. Still a lot of smaller fish but constant action. We had multiple fish come in over 5 lbs. The best bit seems to be in front of Point Judith, Matunuck, and East Beach. We've had shore anglers catching fluke in and around the Breachway, on ball head jigs with gulp.
Reports of a good tautog bite with a mix of healthy seabass happily taking a half crab on a jig. Shallow water tends to be producing better bites for tog. A lot of Scup around stealing bait too. Shore anglers are having success for scup off the beach and jetties.
Ninigret pond is producing best striper bite in the morning and evening on the incoming tide. There is a ton of bait in the back of the pond. Customers are having luck using small profile baits such as 1/2 oz bucktails and 3" Vudu shads. Eels are producing the bigger fish and have been a noteworthy success at the Breachway during the night.
Albie fever is here the line is ringing for any reports, there have been some caught offshore mixed in with small bluefin. There have been some Bonita reports but nothing solid on albies yet. They will be here before we know it.
If your a Tuna person this was your week with great ocean conditions. A lot of first light bites with most fish hanging from 20-40' in the water column. Trolling and casting seemed to be the better producing techniques this week. Mostly smaller sized tuna have been in tight.
