Water continues to warm and the marine life is filling in. Temperatures out front are around 63 degrees and in the pond they can be seen in the mid 70's. Large pods of sandeels are being seen around block, along the south shore, and even in the salt ponds. Sandeels are small like eel fish that range in size. They are long and slender with pointed snouts and can grow up to 30 cm in length. Sandeels are covered in scales and have a single long dorsal fin. They are a valuable bait fish for almost all of our fish, from fluke to tuna.
Customers have been matching the hatch and that has given them good results for striper and bluefish. If its throwing small live eels or using the small size Joebaggs miracle minnow, or savage sandeel green, silver or brownish in color. Lures like that seem to be working well. Big bass continue to fill in to there summer rockpiles and more numbers have been being seen.
The Sea bass and fluke fishing has still been producing pretty well. Seabass can be found almost anywhere whether your targeting them with jigs or throwing some bait on the bottom. Fluke bite has been decent locally and producing better quality fish around block. Another fish that is great for the dinner plate is scup there have been good numbers around and same really big ones.
Tuna fishing has been great not to far south of the island with mostly under bluefin and a few overs reported. Surprisingly there has been a few yellows reported as well.
