Fishing Report — October 24thBass O-Lantern

After a stretch of dirty water and tough tides, the stars (and moon) have finally aligned for a solid weekend on the water. Conditions have settled nicely — clarity has improved, the water’s cooling down, and the weekend forecast looks ideal. Expect light northwest winds and seas around 2 feet, with gentle mixed swell — comfortable whether you’re on the beach or the boat.

Striped Bass:
Bass fishing has been steady. The pond and breachways are holding fish, mostly schoolies with the occasional bigger one mixed in. The beaches have been hit-or-miss — quiet one tide and blitzing the next — so keep the gear ready. Those spooky high tides around the new moon made for some eerie late-night fishing (and a few “bass-o-lantern” moments). Single hook Breachway Bomber and Yo-Zuri Mag Darter are good choices here.

Tautog:
Tog remains the main target for boat anglers. The bite has been solid and consistent when the water’s clean, and this weekend’s calmer, clearer conditions should make for another good bite. Plenty of fresh crab in the shop!

False Albacore:
There are still a few around! They’ve been picky at times, feeding tight and turning off quick. Keep an eye out for surface activity and try to match what’s in the water — small epoxy jigs or metals are your best bet. Joe Baggs Peanut Resins are a great choice.
