Fishing Report – April 10th
Freshwater Opens, Saltwater Wakes Up -- Get Geared Up Now
After a long winter, things are finally starting to happen. Trout season officially opens in Rhode Island this Saturday, and it is always one of the best weekends of the year to shake the rust off and get back on the water.
Freshwater
Rhode Island trout waters have been stocked ahead of opening day, and there should be plenty of fish spread throughout the state. Expect the more popular spots to get crowded early, especially with the weather looking decent. Opening day starts at 6 AM Saturday. See link for more details click here
We are fully stocked with everything you need for opening day:
Largemouth fishing has also been picking up. A few customers have gotten into some quality fish already, and this is one of the better times of year to target bigger bass. Many of the larger females are feeding up ahead of the spawn and can be found around the edges from deep to potential spawning areas.
Striped Bass
The saltwater season is not far away. Holdover bass have been active in rivers, backwaters, and salt ponds, and the herring runs are underway. We are still a little early for a big push of fresh migratory fish, but the first wave of schoolies should start showing over the next couple of weeks if we get some warmer weather. The cold winter may delay the migration slightly, but once water temperatures push toward 50 degrees things should happen quickly.
👉 Now is the time to prep your striper gear—don't get caught unready when the bite explodes.
Stop in for your Reel Respool or grab some early Striper lure favorites like:
Storm Wild Eye Swim Shad or Atom Atomizer.
Tautog
Tautog season is open, but it is still early. Water temperatures remain cold, so most fish are holding in deeper water and can be difficult to reach from shore. That said, if we get a few warmer days in a row it never hurts to get a line wet around deeper rocks, breachways, and jetties. The first few weeks are usually slow, but things can improve quickly once the water starts warming. Look for dandalines poping along the cost usually a telltale sign.
👉 Available in-store and online—grab them now and be ready when the bite improves.
MagicTail Tog Jigs Game Changer and Back Bay Series.
