The first wave of migratory striped bass are beginning to arrive at a few spots in Southern RI. These early-season fish are typically on the smaller side and are best targeted with small, single-hook jigs or lures that allow for easy catch-and-release. I like to throw white bucktails and pearl swim shads—they’ve been consistent producers. Bait is being seen in the salt ponds as well as coves within Narragansett Bay so this will catch the attention of any newly arrived bass moving into the salt ponds in search of food.
There hasn’t been much talk of squid showing up locally just yet, but that should start happening soon as water temps continue to rise.
Opening day for trout in RI was last Saturday 4/12 and the weather was not the best so plenty of fish still out there. We have the gear and bait to help you be successful. The state did a great job stocking local ponds see the attached link for more information https://dem.ri.gov/natural-
