It was a cold week across southern Rhode Island, and the water temps have been slow to climb. We did see the first few fresh stripers show up, but numbers remain very light and fish are on the smaller side. Hopefully, things start to open up quickly in the coming week.
Trout fishing continues to be solid, with plenty of opportunities for anglers who are still getting out there. That said, attention is definitely starting to shift toward saltwater. Stop in for Night Crawlers, Trout Worms and Power Bait. Plenty in stock!
Largemouth bass fishing remains strong. Vegetation is beginning to pop, and fish are active and feeding. Herring have pushed into freshwater spawning grounds, with some still moving up through the rivers—always a good sign for what’s to come.
The first few striped bass of the season have officially reached Rhode Island, though in very small numbers so far. We’re slightly behind where we’ve been in previous years, but this is typically the window when things begin to ramp up.
No worm hatches were observed this week. Timing-wise, this could actually set us up for one of the better hatches in recent years. In past seasons, a lot of worm activity happened before the main body of stripers arrived—this year could line things up much better. Definitely something to keep an eye on.

The tog bite showed slight improvement this week, with most success coming from boats. The shore bite is still a bit slow.
With dandelions now popping, it’s only a matter of time before these fish push in tighter to shore to spawn.
Bait Talk:
From shore—especially in heavier surf—clams and worms can give you confidence that your bait is staying on the hook.
