We had some rougher seas this week with today being much nicer. The forecast looks promising for around the 4th of July.
Fluke reports are a hit or miss some customers last week did very well locally and out at block other customers struggled to find a few keepers (>19"). This time of year the fish are moving around a lot chasing bait. The bite can be good in one area and then the next day the fish have moved to a different area. Back side of Block has still been more productive than the south shore.
Sea Bass fishing has been consistent especially if your really targeting them on rock piles and wrecks. Jigs and bait on the bottom are the key. Double teaser rigs with a sinker on the bottom is a fun way to catch them and adds a little bend in the rod if you double up.
Still a lot of sand eels around and a lot of other rain bait. The ponds are starting to fill in with juvenile fluke, tog, and seabass adding to what bass in the salt ponds are targeting. We've noticed more bass moving through the ponds and we still have some straggling fresh fish coming up from the south. Bass fishing for large fish should be more than great the first few weeks of July.
Was tough for tuna boats to get out this past week but many boats heading out today so should get a good report by end of day.
