Beautiful week, rain on the weekend. It is what it is. Or maybe it isn't.
Saturday might turn out just fine, with any showers holding off until later in the evening and lingering into Sunday.
Sometimes in life—and fishing—we have to accept what's laid out in front of us. But it's also important to remember what got us there. We've all had those days where you cast off your favorite lure, snag a rock and lose a rig, slam your rod in the truck bed, or lose a big fish for every reason except your own.
Some things in life, like tomorrow's weather, simply are what they are.
Losing that fish? Most of the time, it isn't.
We're glad to report that the bass fishing has been good—if not great. This has been one of the strongest springs we can remember, besides the lack of smaller schoolie-sized fish. We're seeing a lot of quality fish, and it's important that we take care of them. This is a strong breeding class that will help build the population over the next several years.
Sandeels are still here in full force, drawing large schools of striped bass into the area. Bass can become selective when they're feeding heavily on dense schools of bait, so your best bet is to either closely match the forage or present something that stands out.
Shore fishing remains very consistent. The daytime bite has slowed a bit under the bright sun, with most action coming during the early morning, evening, and overnight hours.
The cinder worm hatch appears to be winding down. We may see a few more hatches, but it looks like the main event is coming to a close.
The ponds continue to produce quality fish. Topwater spooks (Jigging World The BONE) , Poppers, Albie Snax, small soft plastics(Bigbass Baits, and live eels have all been productive.
There are still plenty of bluefish around.
Bluefish absolutely love sandeels and have a remarkable ability to regurgitate them all over the deck of your boat. It's always interesting to see what they spit up—squid, half a choggie, baby scup, and just about everything else they can fit in their mouths.
We expect bluefish to remain a major player on the inshore grounds throughout June.
Reports along the South Shore remain somewhat slow. Optimal conditions this week got anglers out but the weekend warrior has been struggling. The weather has kept many anglers from putting in serious time locally, but the reports we are hearing consist of plenty of shorts mixed with an occasional keeper.
The Block Island bite has been a little better, and some anglers are finding decent action just outside the bay.
We've got plenty of fresh squid in stock if you're planning to give it a shot this weekend.
Sea bass have entered the mix as well, with some quality fish showing up and aggressively feeding on sandeels.
When fish are focused on sandeels, it's hard to beat a RonZ.
These versatile soft plastics can catch everything from fluke and striped bass to tuna and just about everything in between. Available in a wide variety of sizes, colors, and head weights, there's a RonZ for nearly every situation.
Why we like them:
If the fish are feeding on long, slender bait, a RonZ should absolutely be in your lineup.
