The water's still looking like chocolate milk, but the bass have moved in heavy this week. With great seas ahead for the long weekend—and yes, we'll be open on Monday—now through the next month is what many of us consider the best time of year to fish our area.
Striped Bass
Bass are feeding aggressively on bait schools of peanut bunker and silversides. They're picky, but still hitting lures. Eels have been the hot ticket from the rocks and inside the pond.
Fluke
Fluke fishing has slowed down this past week. Best action is now in deeper water, around 70–80 feet.
Bluefish
Cocktail blues are still around, mostly smaller sizes, but active.
Bonito
Bonito sightings continue along the South Shore, zipping through different spots—keep your eyes peeled.
Sea Bass & Tautog
Limits of both have been coming in, with bigger fish showing up this past week. Shore anglers are seeing more shorts than keepers, but fish are there.
Bird & Bait Activity
Terns are working the beaches, and bait is starting to push in. Action should only get better from here.

August 27, 2025
The emergency repair of the breachway held up well during the storm surge from Hurricane Erin. While some high waves did break through the natural west side dunes, the stonework of the west seawall and the majority of the artificial dune created during the emergency repair remained in place. The effects of the storm surge would have been much worse had the emergency repair not been done. Post storm, the beach has started to naturally recover.
